Hi, I’m John
By day I'm the general manager of a car dealership in Minnesota. On a lot of nights and weekends I'm with the fire department, where I help with training, equipment, and the calls nobody wants to get. Somewhere in between I'm a husband, a dad, and a guy who speaks at churches and events a handful of times a year.
I’m a layman, not a pastor. I read my Bible and get it wrong plenty. I spent most of my life trying harder when what I needed was to be closer.
The book came out of one ordinary afternoon when my four-year-old daughter was watering a thistle behind the house because she thought it was a flower. It was thriving, because she watered it every day.
That’s the question this whole site is built around: what are you watering?
A few things that are true
Married to April. Two kids. One thistle. I speak about leadership, faith, and the gap between the two. I believe discipleship is for regular people with regular jobs. I write like I talk.
